What We believe

We believe in creative action.

  • We believe individual struggles can only be understood in the context of social systems that create and sustain them.
  • We believe in the power of stories to change people's perceptions of social issues and to inspire individuals to take action.
  • We believe that social justice comes from a series of small actions, each having an immediate effect on the lives of disenfranchised people.
  • We believe that our organizational structure and creative process should reflect the kind of world we are trying to build — diverse, safe, and meaningful.
  • We believe in the power of a shared vision to create positive change.

Our Commitment to artists

As a member of a creative team at CAU you can expect:

  • to receive a stipend for your work
  • to work in an environment with clear expectations
  • to be respected as a member of a collaborative ensemble
  • to be challenged to do your best work
  • to receive the support needed to take artistic risks

WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN

Art sometimes takes on the politics of the day, and today, as we acknowledge that we cannot afford to be silent, we join our voices with other artists who are speaking out.

This administration's unconscionable treatment of millions of Americans through suspensions of programs scientific, social, environmental, and artistic; its policy of mass deportations without due process; and its willful support both of violent elements within our society and genocidal regimes throughout the world has ruined lives, and it has plundered already undersupported institutions to further enrich the oligarchs it serves.

But Creative Action Unlimited says no. We stand in opposition to this administration.

And we will not back down.

Our commitment to anti-racism

As a theater company committed to sharing the stories of marginalized and vulnerable members of our society, Creative Action Unlimited stands in solidarity with the Black community in their fight against systemic oppression. We will continue to be socially conscious in our choices and we remain committed to equity and equality in casting, governing and program planning. We pledge to be a safe space for the creative exploration of difficult social concerns. We vow to listen, to learn, to work collaboratively and to use our talent and resources to amplify your stories, in order to create meaningful social change.

our recognition of indigenous lands

With humility, we acknowledge that we are located on the ancestral homelands of the

Mohican people, from whom this land was taken. Despite tremendous hardships and persecution, today their community resides in Wisconsin and is known as the Stockbridge-Munsee Community.  We pay honor and respect to these ancestors as we commit to building a more inclusive and equitable space for all. In service of this commitment, we ask that you join with us in donating to the Rensselaer Plateau Alliance (https://www.rensselaerplateau.org/)
