Maureen Baillargeon Aumand is a retired public school educator (MA in English; MLS in Library Science) and a former Education Director for Capital Repertory Theatre.
During her three and a half decades of employment in the Watervliet City School System, Maureen came to believe deeply in the power of the arts, especially theater, to help students and their teachers put learning on its feet.
In addition to serving as Drama Director at the high school, Maureen wrote grants to support curricular projects that brought artists and teachers together to create unique and dynamic work that honored the NYS State learning objectives even as it invited students to become themselves artists in demonstrating their learning.
Maureen, a peace activist in the regional community for twenty years, unabashedly believes in the development of a “ woke” curriculum - one that links learning to the age old questions concerning
“ the true, the good and the beautiful”, and moves us always to a just and sustainable society.
Maureen has networked to organize countless successful conferences, workshops, meetings and events, often bringing local citizens together with noted speakers. She has brought anti-war leaders to the Capital Region, including to the annual Kateri Peace Conference in Fonda, NY, and she us the co-editor of the book BENDING THE ARC : Striving for Peace and Justice in a World of Endless War.
As a local theater participant, Maureen works in conjunction with a number of local theater groups including Creative Action Unlimited, Harbinger Theatre , Bunbury Theater, Will Kempe's Players, Sand Lake Center for the Arts: Matinee Players, and Circle Theater Players.
